Culture is the character of a nation brought from the past, lived in the present and developed in the future. It is such an extended concept that Atatürk defined it as it follows “Culture is to read, to understand, to see, to find a meaning out from what you see, to learn a lesson, to think and improve the intelligence.” A child born in a culture is brought up with the concepts, traditions, language, religion, and other parameters of the culture, which affects and creates the child’s perspective of life.
This important criteria, CULTURE, exists at every stage of education. As it is known, students shape their learning schemata from known to unknown, from near to far and from familiar to unfamiliar. We aim to use the culture as a basic step to teach our students international and common values of being humans.
Culture has become our starting point and we clarify our objectives under the roof of integrating culture into education, curriculum and teaching foreign languages. We focus on cultural figures and “HERO” concept. HERO stands for –Hospitality, Education, Respect, Opportunity. In education, under the main title, Cultural Figures, these values will be gained by students, teachers, local authorities and participants at the project. The participants will go beyond the borders and learn how to live in a peaceful world when they achieve these values, and schools are the main platform to learn how to be hospitable, respectful to diversities, and to have new opportunities for life-long experiences.
All partners want to learn and develop their students’ consciousness of being European Citizens, create new learning methods and most importantly crash the bias between cultures. Also, this partnership will develop the educational features of the participant institutions. By the help of this partnership we can gain new learning experiences, meet different cultures and we can look at the world from each others’ perspective.
